SupportDHC is an initiative aimed at accelerating the decarbonisation of district heating and cooling (DHC) systems in Europe, taking into account the challenges faced by operators and municipalities on the path to carbon neutrality by 2050.
The key goal of the project is the integration of low-temperature renewable energy sources and waste heat into DHC systems. The city of Lviv, as a project partner, through the municipal company “Lvivteploenergo”, is exploring the possibilities of using geothermal energy and waste heat to modernise its district heating network and reduce emissions.
SupportDHC also includes a comprehensive capacity-building program for eight Ukrainian district heating companies from seven cities. The program participants — Zhovkva, Sambir, Vinnytsia, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Chornomorsk and Lozova — receive support for adapting advanced European practices and implementing innovations in their heating systems.
The project fosters deeper cooperation between authorities, DHC operators, and other stakeholders, laying the foundation for systemic change and a sustainable energy transition in Ukraine’s heating sector.
