EUMINDA

EUMINDA is a collaborative project focused on improving policy frameworks to support a just transition from coal mining to sustainable development in post-industrial regions. It highlights the long-term environmental and social impacts of mining activities — many of which remain underrecognized, uncompensated, and unaddressed.

The project brings together 12 partner organizations (including one research partner), 3 associated public authorities, and 8 policy instruments across 9 countries.

Participating regions represent different phases of the mining lifecycle, creating opportunities for shared learning and the co-creation of cross-regional approaches to institutional reform.

🔍 EUMINDA’s key areas of activity include:

  • Assessing the current state of policies related to mining heritage in each region

  • Engaging stakeholders — from citizens and civil society to the private sector — in inclusive just transition processes

  • Developing policy recommendations through interregional cooperation

  • Piloting a universal data analysis method to trace causal links between mining activities and their long-term consequences

EUMINDA offers an interregional platform to test and scale sustainable development solutions in former mining territories — making them more resilient, socially cohesive, and future-oriented.
