Since 2012 City Institute has been involved in updating the data within the framework of the "Automated System of Municipal Statistics" project. This year throughout September for the first time information was collected on the number of local self-authority workers in general and gender distribution in particular.
Main results of the study:
As at September 2017 about 1386 people work in local self-government authorities: 81% are employees of Lviv City council, and 19% - workers of Lviv regional administrations. In terms of gender distribution in local self-government bodies more women work. Thus, 81% of women and 19% of men work in Lviv City Council.
At the same time in regional administrations the proportion of women is 72% and men 28%. Among the management of local self-government we observe gender equality: both in Lviv City Council and district administrations the share of male and female heads is equal.
In the structure of LCC the largest share of women is represented by the department of finance (93%), humanitarian policy (89%) and administrative services (87%). The largest number of men in the department of housing and infrastructure (48%), urban planning (31%) and waste management (29%). As for gender division in the structure of district administrations, we observe almost the same percentage distribution among the number of employees. But the largest share of women works in the Galician District Administration (77%), and the largest share of men is in the Shevchenkivskyi District Administration (38%).
Only actual local self-government workers have been taken into account. The data were received on official request to 10 departments (including 36 subordinate departments) and 6 district administrations of Lviv local self-government within the framework of the project Automated System of Municipal Statistics.
